Frequently asked questions.
Does it cost any more to buy an eFoil through you, as opposed to buying direct from Lift?
No! It doesn’t cost anything more to order your eFoils through us. In fact, there are many benefits to allowing us to help you. Talking to us is essentially talking directly to Lift and we are right here as your local source. We can help you with your intitial setup, get any issues that may arise resolved promptly, and be your advocate going forward. We want to build a relationship with you! We can make it as easy as putting an order together for you and sending you a link directly to checkout.
What can I expect for a typical lesson with you?
We start each lesson on land. You’ll get a good run down on how to operate the eFoil safely and then we’ll work on a few techniques. First, using a towel on the ground to help you visualize what you need to do on the water, we’ll practice getting you up on your feet. Once that is clear, we’ll discuss a few simple things about bailing off the board safely. After that, we’ll head out on the water one-on-one with BbTalking helmet headsets to make communication nice and easy. You’ll take turns going one-on-one with the instructor(s) until everyone in the group has reached satisfactory proficiency and then we’ll set you free to ride out the remainder of your battery. We’ll hang back with a headset on or ride along with you.
Is there anything I can do to prepare for my lesson?
Yes, absolutely! The best thing you can do to prepare is watch some “how to” videos so you can visualize what you need to do before you get here. We’ll go over everything to get you up and riding, but having a good mental picture already established will really help you get the most out of your first lesson. Damien LeRoy put together this fantastic video below. Take a few minutes to watch this. It will help you immensely. Thanks Damien!
Where do you conduct your lessons?
We either bring our eFoils to your location or meet you at a public location that makes sense for us all. Homes on many of our local lakes, such as; Walloon Lake, Lake Charlevoix, Burt Lake, Mullet Lake, Torch Lake, or Little Traverse Bay that have private beaches or docks can be ideal. Decent sized boats are a great way to conduct a lesson too. One thing to really consider is the water quality. Weedy and muddy lakes are not conducive to eFoiling. We like clear lakes with nice sandy bottoms. The beach at Petoskey State Park is a good standbye for us. We consider this beach our home. Keep in mind that early mornings are the best chance to see flat water on Little Traverse Bay.
Do people actually get up “on foil” during their first lesson?
If you’re athletic, have good balance, and have taken the time to watch Damien’s ‘How To Video’ up above, the answer is yes. Most people at least get a good taste their first day. It’s so much fun and not something to be nervous about. Everybody but the most talented people go through a similar progression, though. The most important thing in my opinion is to relax and visualize yourself riding before you get here. Use the power of your imagination to guide you and you’ll have success quicker than you think.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
We’ve thought long and hard about this. We want to be fair and certainly don’t want anyone to feel that they have been cheated in anyway. We also don’t want to over complicate it. With that said, our policy is simple, you have up until 24 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time to cancel or reschedule, which you can do yourself through your confirmation email. Inside of that, we keep your money.
Our season is very short and 24 hours is putting us in a very tight spot trying to rebook ourselves.
Are there any age restrictions?
The age group growing the fastest in the eFoil community are those between the ages of 45 and 65. This surprises people a bit and I think it’s so great! How many of you wished you learned to surf but never took the time to do it? It’s not too late!! This IS surfing. I hear way too many people say, “Oh…I can’t bend like that anymore.” Or “I’m too old for that.” You might just surprise yourself; and when you do, it will be such a pleasure to see that smile on your face!
Considering kids, it’s best to give us a call to discuss.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
We provide helmets, life jackets and attempt to provide wetsuits, but we don’t have an endless variety of sizes. Early and late season are really the only times that they are necessary, unless you are very sensitive to the cold. Typically, you only need to bring yourself, a bathing suit, towel, and sunscreen. If you have your own personal wetsuit, and are new to this, it would be a good idea to bring it. When you’re new, you’ll spend a fair amount of time on your knees and a suit can help keep those knees in good shape.
